OUTDOOR PLAYSPACE
Explore / Feel / Interact / Play
VISION & APPROACH
The childrens’ outdoor space was envisioned to be a Natural Exploratory Playscape that enables them to be adventurous and creative while safe.
Natural environments are a refreshing experience for many children, in their otherwise technologically active worlds. They are found to be inviting, warm and induce observation and exploratory play. Being inclusive in our approach, multi-sensory textures, sounds and smell constitute an integral part of the experience. This said, minimising threats and hazards were also major challenges, to promote and ensure active use of the space. We invite them to:
EXPLORE + FEEL + INTERACT + PLAY
Once these basic concepts and ideas were generated, an inspiration/ moodboard for to define colours, patterns and textures would be created.
IDEAS & CONCEPTS
EXPLORE
Interesting spaces carved by a variety of natural material provide opportunities for adventure and exploration along with conventional play-sets in natural material.
FEEL
Tactile, olfactory and visual stimulation through sensory paths made with natural elements, integrated into the landscape.
INTERACT
Acoustic sculptures to add elements of whimsy, interaction and draw one to the space.
SAFETY
Rounded edges and corners, sturdy railings for tall structures, soft landing spots, etc were features we began to look at once ideas were generated. Since we were particular about our material palette, we prioritized the use of natural material that was skin friendly and treated to be as safe as possible for the kids.
My engagement on the project involved primary and secondary research, driving the creative and design thinking processes, generating ideas and sketches, and identifying and reaching out to potential vendors/collaborators.
